Using a DTT Cheap Dongle

I don't know if this is of any interest to readers here, but here goes anyway .....

I have one el-cheapo USB DTT dongle plugged into one PC.
I am - from there - multicasting the mux that dongle is tuned to.
All other PCs on the LAN can tune into any or all channels on the mux, and record any combination of them ...... as long as there are sufficient resources in the receiving PC.

I have one PC that was capable of showing four TV channels simultaneously when I tested ...... here is a link to a screenshot

    http://i52.tinypic.com/ouqix4.jpg

Most of the rooms in the house are CAT5 wired, so this should allow any PC in the house to receive the multicast channels.

I will probably meet a problem of LAN congestion when a few PCs connect to the stream .... this has yet to be tested.

Presently I am showing 2.9MB/s on the PC I have tested with ..... regardless of how many channels are displayed.

    Fun to play with :D

Vey close ..... I think there is a similar article for Linux which I read ....

I am using Linux, dvblast to multicast, and sapserver to send a playlist for selection of the channel to watch.

dvblast is multicasting the complete mux and not one channel, as it appears that article says ..... but I only briefly read through it. That means that the receiving PC can view any channel in the mux ..... or multiples of them.

dvblast and minisapserver are both products of the Videolan group IIRC.

Found it! This link is closer to what I have here ..... I have only one receiver, but the principle is the same ....

    Great fun! :D:D

    regards.

An Afatech 9016 on PCLinuxOS with kernel 2.6.38.4

The apps are dvblast, minisapserver and vlc.
A couple of conf files and a small script to toggle the multicast on and off.

Is that what you meant? .... wasn't sure ;)

How is your set up behaving?

    Are you using multicast?
All the channels or just one at a time?
