Man City Tonight!

Big game for us. Bale missing, what are our chances? I know we have a good record against Man City but I feel they will be looking for blood after us beating them at home last season to clinch 4th.

I reckon it will be 1-1

Sure as hell won't be 1-1, both sides like to attack so I'm going for a high scoring game. I think we'll create plenty of chances, it'll depend on what form Gomes is in and if anyone in a Spurs shirt can hit the back of the net. And Redknapp don't start with Pavlyuchenko either, with one win in 12 isn't exactly great from, but I still fancy us tonight. 3-2 to Spurs!

    3-0 to city id say

we are failing and failing fast, morale is low and confidence is down

city are rampant and will beat us

I'll agree with this, though to be fair, City wouldn't even need to be rampant to beat us. We can't beat Blackpool/West Ham at home, what chance do we have away to a top team? It's clear from recent performances that most players are thinking only about their summer holidays.

well we only show up for the big games so i think we have a chance! 1-0 spurs me thinks

anybody know how doubtful modric is for tonight?

Yup the players seem to lift themselves for the big matches. Its a pity we had that dreadful result v Blackpool but a win tonight still gives us a slight chance of Champions league football again.

ah feck it, lets just win a game.

Not particularly optimistic based on our current form but you never know, I think if Modric is out we'll definitely struggle - will be curious to see our line-up.

Team just announced on skysports news

    Gomes out (back injury ?!?!?)

Wilson and Sandro starting together in midfield

    Cudicini

    Kabou----Gallas---Dawson----Rose

    Palicios---Sandro
    Lennon
    Modric
    VDV

    Crouch

Interesting team for tonight! Carlo in nets, wilson and sandro also start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,366 ✭✭✭✭2nd Row Donkey

5 changes from last weeks horror show vs Blackpool

Glad to see Carlo get his chance.

The two holding midfilders should give Lennon/Modric and VDV plenty od scope to attack.

Good ol' Harry's gonna give it a lash to night thats for sure!:D

This time last year (almost), I went to the pub to watch this game and my wife went into labour!!! Shortly afterwards was the most amazing moment of my life.

    Nice finish Crouchy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,932 ✭✭✭SuprSi

Wow, this fixture is the epitome of a reverse. This time last year we needed to win to secure 4th, City can do it tonight. Crouch scored for us to win the game, Crouch scores an OG tonight to put City 1 up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,290 ✭✭✭Leinstersqspur

Typical of our season, 60% possession, Luka misses a sitter and we go 1 down....

Makings of a great game if we can get back into it?! COYS!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,366 ✭✭✭✭2nd Row Donkey

    ^^^^

I was just thinking the same thing.
I'd have put my house on Modric to score that - he's stroked them home before just like that. The whole damn team is struggling to put the bal in the net. Correction - the right net!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,290 ✭✭✭Leinstersqspur

    Sandro is awesome!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,366 ✭✭✭✭2nd Row Donkey

We're playing pretty good.. at least we are making chances.

    I think it will be a draw 1 : 1

4 goals in god knows how many games for Crouch and his best 1 is a great touch into his own net...

Pity about Palacios going off so early, though I would've gone for Kranjcar ahead of Pienaar in the sub...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 38 bobby boots

Palacios doesn't offer anything, I for one was glad to see him go off. He can't complete a five yard pass for christ sake.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,290 ✭✭✭Leinstersqspur

How are we not beating these mugs?! FFS! Get Defoe on for Crouch...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 38 bobby boots

City are there for the taking, get Defoe on!!!

Carlo has been a spectator for the entire match.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭mickman

Same as whole season . Loads of possession and not able to create chances. It's cos we only have one striker up front and the other fella is running and racing all the way back to left back ..... Again. I can't bear watching how vdv pulls the team so much out of shape and has done so time and time again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭mushykeogh

why is crouch still on the pitch?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,078 ✭✭✭Glebee

Anybody else think that city celebration is just stupid......

Dzeko he's some pile of steaming sh*te.

    Well thank f**k thats over.

The whole will we/wont we make 4th place as been a dragging on for weeks and in typical spurs fashion it was long and painful. ****e result after ****e result and somehow we still had a chance. Well the better team is going through to the CL and they will probably be there for years to come.

Saturdays game means neither team have CL to play for so you can stick your mortgage on liverpool giving is a good spanking.

Kind of summed up our PL season. All the posession in the world but not enough chances created or taken :( Why not Krancjar for Palacios????

Cos nikos head is gone and understandably so

We are looking at getting rid of these hopefully

    Jenas , bentley , keane , corluka, pav , Gomes, niko ,

    That's a lot of deadwood

    Played very well tonight.
Not worth a wa*k though unless you score.
I was bewildered with the change, defoe for crouch. He has won several headers all night, late in the game and we are always going to go long, and he takes him off  - bring defoe on and take off vdv and go 2 up top and hope we sneak one, dont take off the fellas who's causing them problems.

Yeah we did play ok but didnt create a lot and Hart hadnt many saves to make, I read somewhere that Harry was looking to offload VDV in the summer, maybe thats why he was left on  Dissappointed tonight but it was a great season to be a Spurs fan :D

Forgot to mention that, he has been our best players in the last 2 games, fair play to him.

Close to Sandro who I think is potentially the best player in our squad. Turbo engine and strong as an ox. He might be gone before we know it..?!

A performance typical of our season, dominated the game but once more we couldn't score a goal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,153 ✭✭✭everdead.ie

I'm getting worried now because our form is starting to mirror how we played after we won the league cup.

Lads if we had a couple of strikers who were on form we would be a completely different team.

Defensvily we are fine.. except for Gomes. Rose has done very well and we still have Walker to come in. King and Woodgate need to be released but I think the rest are worth keeping. Cover at left back is the only concern when both Bale and BAE are out but Rose is a short term solution.

Midfield is doing great in my books... Hudd, Lennon, Modric and Bale all had fine seasons and Sandro has been the player of 2011 to date. We are creating plenty of chances and keep the ball well, we have a good mix of industry and skill, players like Palicios will be required in a top 4 challenge as will Niko, Jenas and Co.

Up front we have good players who are low in confidence. We'll probably shift one or two but I wouldnt be upset if we still had any 2 from Defoe, Crouch and Pav at the start of next season as long as we also bring in at least 1 top striker and maybe 1 hot prospect like wickham (or similar)

VDV is were I struggle, I think we've changed the team to much to accomadate him and he offers nothing defensively except the odd rash challenge and a booking. If we get 6M+ for him over the summer and he's not sold to one of our rivals then let him go.

i agree with the vdv thing , but not when you say we are creating plenty of chances. we create almost no chances recently, not any clear ones anyway. last night we had two even though we had the majority of the posession.

we played much better last night due to one player and that is lennon. he offers real wing play and width, not like vdv who pulls infield every second ,never tracks back to help corluka and is often seen taking the ball off sandro in the centre circle. if vdv wont play off the front man and stay up there then there is no place for him in my opinion

If not own goal by Crouch then i would be right and it would be draw...

VDV has been a great signing for us , but at times i think he unbalances the team or is that just me making excuses .

You are right I am afraid. At the begining he played up top off crouch, but as others have pointed out on this forum he dropped deeper and deeper and pulled the team out of all shape.

Technically and workrate wise he looked very good last night. He should keep THudd on his toes next season.

surely harry and the team see this ? especially joe jordan who im sure would be harping on about shape and midfield positions etc.

even my g/friend was watching the last few matches while also reading a book and she said that fella "vdv" shows up all over the pitch :-)

    that says it all really.

since we beat ac milan, we have had 6 draws, 3 defeats and 1 win in the league. Our best result of the season seems to have been a catalyst for a major slump! 6 draws, a major loss of points there, even if we had convert 3 of those to wins, thats 6 extra points. Frustrating.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 138 ✭✭yidweiser

I can't understand why we played Palacios and Sandro in the middle and Modric on the left in this game?
Modric cuts inside all the time.
He should have been in the middle with one of the above and Krancjar on the left.
Krancjar was under used this year in my opinion and could have delivered killer balls to the strikers, when Bale was injured of course!
I also think Pienaar has been c##p for us.
