Delay in getting JSA - problem due to SW error

    Hi there,

I applied for JSA over 5 weeks ago and called up my SW office today only to be told that my file hadn't yet transferred over from the original SW office that I had applied through :( The reason I had to change offices is because I had to move back in with my family. I applied to the original office 6 weeks ago.

I'm still waiting for SW to call me back over this. Has this happened to anyone else before and if so how long has it taken to be processed in the end? To be honest I'm a bit shaken and upset over this, I really can't afford to wait much longer for payment to come through, nor do I want to be in a position to borrow money from elsewhere due to someone else's mistake. Is it advisable to kick up a stink over this or will it actually get me anywhere?

Kicking up a stink will get you nowhere unfortunately, if it helps at all once the forms arrive where they're supposed to be & you've given them all the info they've asked for (no matter what it is or how unrelated you might think it is - I got stung here) then your payment gets processed relatively quickly. In my experience anyways.

What might help is getting on to your local Community Welfare Officer about an emergency payment to tide you over till your JSA is processed

If you are stuck financially you can apply for Supplementary Welfare Allowance from your Community Welfare Officer.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I jumped through hoops before supplying all the documentation and got it in really quickly. Just disappointed that their end is so inefficient. Regards kicking up a stink, unfortunately I know all too well that that might go aginst me, however do you think it might be a good idea to actually visit Office #1 (where my files originally were) and chat to them, since SW have not phoned me back since I rang 3.5 hours ago, and are not answering phones . I'm aware that Office #2 might be passing the blame onto Office #1 though

    Update since last week.

I've been ringing up every other day about my claim. Initially it was being looked at by an inspector(for means test I imagine), then when I called today I was told it was pending an interview with an inspector, but the people I spoke to aren't inspectors and know nothing about the ins and outs of when that might happen (eg when an interview is likely to take place).

I went to see the CWO today too as I finally faced up to how bad my finances are and the vagueness of the SW isn't helping to put my mind at rest. Unfortunately they CWO won't be around till Thursday but I feel better than I can actually do something. Does SWA take long to process? There were signs up all over the place advising people about potential delays :( To make a bad day even worse, I found out I haven't even gotten an interview for a great job that I applied for :(
