It's frightening how little it takes to cause failures. I always tape up the muzzle of my rifle when out in anything but summer sunshine. My dad used to borrow a shotgun off a lad and he could only use the one barrel as yer man had gotten a little bit of snow or muck in it at one time, pulled the trigger and the barrel ruptured a few inches in front of the breech face, big split in the side. Never heard whether the guy was injured, but if you think about it, your front hand would be there and very exposed (side by side), so it's not a pleasant thought.

    Garv,

As I said, Video is on the go since 2009, mythbusters said it was impossible to recreate.

I have seen a Remington as it happens that the owner fell with, filled the end of the barrel with clay or peat, not sure what it was but it swelled. The Owner tried to tell the RFD that it swelled by it self!

Result was barrel was chopped 1" and is still shooting today
That was a .223 SPS in 2006 <FTR> 3 years before the "famous youtube video"

I fell with my rifle once in long grass whilst climbing over a "semi permanent Irish gate", I noticed a small bit of clay in the end of the barrel while I was inspecting for damage to rifle/scope.

I went home, cleaning rod down the bore, and out came 1.5" of clay .224" wide .
Had I fired a shot My 26" barrel would have been 24" or worse the gas would have blown back through the action and Burnt the hand off me through the emergency gas port on my Remington or worse.

Keep your Barrel Clean and free from Obstruction.............
One of the 10 Firearm commandments
