    according to the independent http://www.independent.ie/national-news/martin-shoots-down-aherns-aras-election-bid-2641886.html

FIANNA Fail's leadership last night began distancing itself from former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern ahead of the Mahon Tribunal report's publication.

which got me thinking, exactly how many Fianna Failers have been outright found to be corrupt, or at least strongly linked to shady dealings?

would be interested in getting a list going if any of you would like to take part? :pac:

Bertie Ahern wouldn't even get the FF nomination if he attempted to go for it. The majority of FF councillors wouldn't even support him - FF party members are outraged with Ahern.

Been done to death a couple of times on boards, most recently in the run-up to the general election to emphasise how FF were more prone to high-level corruption than the others.

What I'm more surprised at is the implication that the Mahon Tribunal is about to issue a report......two years late and - coincidentally - post FF's election campaign and disastrous bank guarantee and NAMA.

Well you could include the current ff leader in that list.
After all he did receive an ammount equivalent to half the average industrial wage in early 90s from none other than one owen o'callaghan, Cork developer.
Subsequently the money ended up in his girlfriend's/wife's Dublin bank accounts.
He might have been following the ff habit of not having bank accounts, or Irish ones anyway.

Then mr martin was at a meeting between owen o'callaghan and bertie ahern.
That would have been one of the meetings at which Tom Kilmartin claimed o'callaghan gave bertie a £80,000 bung for go ahead for planning of Liffey Valley shopping centre.

Now would that be shady enough for your list ?

It took the ffffers a long time to get outraged and thanks to that the country is truly f**ked.

I am not allowed discuss …

That's been done to death (debt). A better list would give the names of those who came to the defence of Ahern and stood behind him while he was being investigated by the tribunal. Yes loyalty is touching but you need to put your money where your mouth is, if he is found to have engaged in behaviour unbecoming of a politician then all those FFers who backed the wrong horse should exit politics for their defence of the indefensible teflon Taoiseach

And maybe on that list they should put Sir Tony O'Reilly and his comics with FF propagandists such Harris, Fanning etc

So what sucker will FF get to stand anyone ?

Fianna Fail Councellers have been given free reign to vote for whom ever they would like to.

    From the Politics.ie Forum

Fianna Fail giving councillors free-vote over council nominations for President

Micheal Martin has announced that the party is not to direct the party's councillors to vote against (or for) any candidate for President.

In a statement tonight, Martin said there should be a contest for President, and rather blunting having a poke at Fine Gael, said the party would not block any candidate.

The move comes as Wexford County Council is to vote tonight on the nomination of David Norris for as a candidate for President. The motion is being tabled by Fianna Fail Councillor Malcolm Byrne.

It was reported in April that Fine Gael headquarters had directed party councillors to vote against any motion for Senator Norris.
It is the Fianna Fáil view that the people of this country are entitled to have as wide a choice for the office of President as possible and that this choice should not be limited to the official nominations of the political parties. For this reason, I will not be taking the same approach as other parties as they seek to block the nomination of independent candidates and will permit party representatives to facilitate the candidacy of individuals who they believe should have the right to stand before the electorate.
    Micheal Martin TD

This is evidently going to be a negative thing that Fianna Fail have done according to the attitude of many posters on this fora .....

So let the Fianna Fail Lambasting begin...
