    Hi all,

Am wondering if there is a noticeable declining trend in trainee accountant positions being offered throughout the country? Im a recent convert to ACCA, in the thick of exams etc but not working in a trainee position. I live in a large town in munster and am concerned I may have difficulty in finding a position in the next year or 2. I've already made a career change from a totally different industry due to my physical location so am hoping I'm still on the right track to getting an job as an accountant - I mean we all need accountants right?:)

The sooner you start training the better probably - you will still need three years of experience to qualify.

Your studies will also be more relevant if you are training at the same time.

Do ACCA keep a register of firms that hire trainees? Recruitment can be seasonal with vacancies being advertised well in advance of start dates.

There will always be a demand for trainee accountants because they are cheap, the same doesn't necessarily hold true for qualified accountants.

I'm in a similar position. Working away at the moment but trying to get a role so I can get my experience. Not so easy since trainee accountants seem to grow on trees.

im afraid you are right it is next to impossible to get a trainee position at the moment as the firms have the pick of college graduates. There is also some sort of bias against more mature students and i am only 31 !
