Not sure if anyone else finds themselves on the cycle path down sir john rogersons quay, but there is a building about halfway down on the liffey side of the road that has a sign above saying "GAS".

On the cycle path at either end of the building there is written on the ground "pig trap". i'm hoping someone wiser than me will have seen this as well and can tell me what it means.

Here for anyone that is that way and hasn't noticed before, you can kind of see it on the ground in that picture.

That's odd, I've cycled/walked there loads of times and never spotted it.

It's a Pipeline Inspection Gauge - in the pipeline industry it's a tool that is sent down a pipeline and propelled by the pressure of the product in the pipeline itself.

It checks for cracks and defects in pipelines

Pigging in the maintenance of pipelines refers to the practice of using pipeline inspection gauges or 'pigs' to perform various operations on a pipeline without stopping the flow of the product in the pipeline. These operations include but are not limited to cleaning and inspecting of the pipeline. This is accomplished by inserting the pig into a 'pig launcher' - a funnel shaped Y section in the pipeline. The launcher is then closed and the pressure of the product in the pipeline is used to push it along down the pipe until it reaches the receiving trap - the 'pig catcher'.

morning all, i thought it was something else, reminiscent of being pulled for speeding on the bike :o
would not have been surprised to have seen a pic of a camera van perched across a bike lane.
have a good day and ride safe
