Very small chip (hit with a basketball), I was in with the Hygienist today and had Dentist take a quick look because it has started to get a bit Sensitive/painful, he couldn't see anything wrong but reckoned the nerve could be dying (slowly) from the knock it got and mentioned root canal.

From Boardies experiences.....Is that the way to go???
Do root canals last long? Do they take long to do? Would it need a Crown then aswell?

Would I be just better to get it out and get a false one?

I know nothing about Dental procedures (pretty obvious) and he was busy today so I didn't delay him with a million questions.

I'm not looking forward to any of the options.:(

just have it taken out. and don't waste money on a false one. you will get used to the appearance after a while.

I had a root canal in the upper back molar about 1999, and it has maintained its integrity, and no sign of deterioration in the external shell of the tooth. When I got it, I hurt like mad, but once root dead, no pain. Mine is filled with the silver coloured filling, so good thing it is in the back, and not visible.

Getting a healthy tooth removed is a huge step, and not to be done without looking at all your options. It might seem the best option to get a root canal, but perhaps see dentist and ask about veneers, also, false tooth, that is screwed in, and perhaps dentist may simply advice no treatment, until tooth either dies, discolours, or weakens.

Best to get dentists opinion, and perhaps a specialists.

    Hope it goes well.
