My mother is sick for the past 10 years from her kidneys. Due to so many key hole surgery on her kidneys to get rid of kidney stones she was left with 2 kidneys that basically failed. The last 6 years she has been on dialysis (she is on the transplant list 4 years) The first 2 years were involved in getting her 'healthy' enough to be able to get a kidney and also a lot of things kept going wrong for her.

Basically I would like to know the gods honest truth about what future is ahead of her. Recently her hair has started to thin and she seems to be at the early stages of going bald. She is always getting sick and she is always feeling weak lately. It looks like 6 years of dialysis is starting to take its toll.

Can anyone explain to me what is happening and why she is waiting so long for a kidney (can i just add that she will not take a kidney off anyone because she says she would not like to put anyone through operations)

Happy to leave this thread here for someone to offer their experiences, but you might have more luck on a specialised website op. Really pulling for you both, hope you get a bit of luck - sounds like you both deserve it.

hi there . i am a current dialysis paitent and although i am currently doing home pd i was on hamo for 2 1/2 years and i do understand where you are coming from. Its very hard to explain all the side affects from hamo but my hair also thinned out and the tierdness is all part and parcel of the whole experience i am afraid. You should talk to your mothers renal nurse or consultant and explain your fears and maybe they will be able to help you. Your mother is prob on alot of meds as well which dont help matters. \and they must think she is well enough to be on the list for a transplant. I hope all goes well for you both but if she gets a transplant there is light at the end of the tunnell

A lot of patients go trough bad spells and bounce back, Good diet, easy on the fluid, plenty of rest, & keep in tight contact with the head dialysis nurse & consultant on her blood levels, Its prety much walking a tight rope, keep the right balance & you will do much better, As for other Q. talk to the transplant coordinator. Don't be afraid to open channels with the people who are responsible for her care, they are getting paid to help. Best of luck :)
