Ok - Speeding fine here. Returned the letter with my laser details a week before the cut off time.

Got a letter this morning saying:

'...could not be processed for the reason(s) outlined below.'
The name written on notice is different to that on the Driving License record.

I've double checked the letter's driving license number with my driving license and they're identical.
I don't have any oddities in my name or anything either.

I've triple checked the original letter (which is stapled to this returned letter) and as well as clearly showing my name, it says, next to field to write in my drivers license number,
"The license/permit number on an Irish license/permit is the number in black type on the first page of the license/permit to the left of the photo.

    That's exactly what I did!
Here's a picture of some random guy's license (only one I could find on google!):

The number they want is just above the (stock number) big red writing in black, right? (Sucky image has a big shine on it sorry).

Since they sent the letter on Friday, it only arrived this morning... yet the date they've given me to pay by is tomorrow.
If I don't get it paid by tomorrow it goes from 80 to 120 euro...

What can I do other than send in the exact same number that I know for a fact is correct?
The only other thing I can think of is I didn't write my middle/confirmation name on the letter I sent back?

Go to a garda station, get it noted that you've attempted to pay the fine... will be a help if you need to go to court over it

They might be able to help you out there too...

Can you ring them and explain?

Why don't you pay it in the Post Office?

Yeah I'll try ring someone tomorrow.

I think I've just figured it out though after looking at my sister's driving license.
I seem to be the only one with a goddamn middle name listed on my drivers license? :) I've got my first name and my middle name on the 'first name' section of my license. :(

I never put that down on any form and my birth cert, which was needed for my driving license initially, doesn't show my middle name as a first name.

I always assumed everyone had that on their license but it looks like it's just me!
So someone made a mistake when entering my details in when I initially applied for a license?
Why don't you pay it in the Post Office?

Regardless of where I pay for it, at the time of my original post, I wasn't aware of anything that could be deemed as incorrect on my side.
The issue wasn't with not having the time or means to do it, it was with the fact the letter was returned to me saying I had the wrong name based on the driving license number I gave them despite them all being in order (or so it seemed).

Why do they even care about such a trivial thing? Are you not allowed to pay someone else's fine?

Lol, I know what you're saying but in my first post I asked (before I'd copped the middle name thing and just assumed they made a mistake):
    • "What can I do other than send in the exact same number that I know for a fact is correct?"
I wasn't majorly worried about the timing of it - although now that I think of it, I have to be in work before the post office opens. May need to get someone else to do it for me.

Yeah it's a bit of a joke to be honest.
Especially considering the 2 letters they've now sent to me with all this written on it are addressed to the exact name that I have written on the form - which they've rejected.

So they must want me to add the middle name that was mistakenly, by whoever deals with driving license applications, added to my driving license... even though that's not my name. :(
