Selling House Info

    Hi all,

I hope this doesn't break any rules, but a friend of mine is thinking of putting her house on the market next month and i think she's mad!

Are any houses in Carlow town selling? Has anyone actually bought a house in the last while or is it dead? Or has anyone heard if the Carlow banks are giving people mortgages easily?

Any info would be appreciated (not looking for house prices just proof anything is selling)

    Thanks a million,

    Rose

I doubt many houses are selling.

From what I gather, The big deal is that banks aren't lending money to people for mortgages. This is probably because 1) they don't have any money left because they screwed the economy up so badly in previous years and 2) house prices are still predicted to be going lower over the next few years.

Saying that though, if your mate sells and house prices actually do go down... then that's a good thing for your friend.

Also, even though you may think your friend is mad and shouldn't sell the house, there may be more to it than you think. Perhaps your friend is really strained for money and has to give up the house. Times are though for everyone at the moment and only look to be getting thougher in the years ahead.

Thanks Slydice, she is finding things tough, it's illness. I just worry that i haven't even heard of anyone buying a house lately between the economy and the banks.

    Anyone else know/hear anything?

    Regards,

    Rose

I know a guy who had mortgage approval and wanted to by a house asking price 2 years ago €299k and he offered the developer €270k but he refused.
The Developer was back to him 2 months ago willing to sell the same property for €175k. He laughed at the Developer.
Out of curiosity he went back to be bank and they said he would have to come up with the 1st have 50K himself and clear his car loan before they would give him the remainder of the mortgage. He would have been a 1st time buyer.

Thanks for replying Lucylu. Much appreciated. I guess she'll have to hope for a cash buyer.
