Interview in London - advice anyone??

    I have an interview for a job in London on Thursday. It's a permanent secondary job. I have to be observed teaching a lesson and then have the formal interview part. Dreading it with nerves although I have taught here for 4 years.

    Is there anyone who has worked in the UK that has any tips for me? Please and thanks :-)

    I've just had one interview for a job in London and it was successful. What it seems they're looking for is enthusiasm, enthusiasm, enthusiasm with a few buckets of energy and interest and self-motivation thrown in.
    Make sure you let them know that you LOVE your subject and that you LOVE finding new and exciting ways of bringing your subject to the kids, each of whom you care deeply about.

    Thanks. I'm dreading it, but mainly the whole observed lesson business. Do you ahve any advice for that?

    Be calm, confident and friendly.

    Remember, the school aren't going to want any hassle, so they'll give you a class they know they can trust to behave.

    Try to catch a few people's names. Shows you care about the kids. In England even more so than here, remember the maxim 'I'm not a teacher of [subject], I'm a teacher of children'.

    Try to get in a couple of modes of interaction: pairs, group, teacher-students, student-teacher, student-class etc.

    Don't go mad on the resources - K.I.S.S - but do have something you made yourself - a powerpoint, or a handout, depending on your subject, some kind of realia.

    Share learning objectives with the class
    Evaluate whether the learning objectives were achieved

    Start with stating the learning objectives - example today we are going to learn
    - what is cubism
    - three important cubist artists

    Finish the lesson with evaluating these stated objectives -
    - Who can tell me what cubism is?
    - Mary, can you name three important cubist artists?
    - Jimmy, why is Picasso considered to be an important cubist?
