I currently run BT3 and 4 from Vmware images. Reckon I'll do the same with 5 when one is released. :)

Defo upgrade! Was very disappointed with BT4, even ended up switching back to BT3! Any sign of a release note or anything yet?

officially released http://www.backtrack-linux.org/downloads/ gonna take 4hrs to download.

not sure why they didn't push it out to a few worldwide mirrors like ftp.heanet.ie etc .torrent is not exactly "corporate" or ISP friendly these days

downloaded the Gnome 32bit vm image (KDE only comes as an ISO). Nice fast download (just over 1 hour @ 447 kb/s) as a torrent.

I'll probably get the KDE ISO later on and use isoboot to boot a VM from it and see which I prefer :)

I tried the VM one last night, looks a bit nicer now with GNOME. Alot more tools, but couldn't find a change log or release note with list of that's different from v4.

Don't think there is a change log since it's a different diso built from the ground up will full source available which allowed them to easily release a 32bit, 64bit and ARM version.

No upgrade path either. Would have saved me a lot of time. Looks like its going to have to go onto a new USB key for me as well

Have installed it in a VM for now.
    Working fine under VMware player.

The VMware tools I couldn't get completely installed due to not having the kernel header file in the same place as Bt4. It did do the graphics and mouse which is all i needed really.

Still nosing around but I have to say itll be replacing my install on the pen drive even though ill have to add a few tools and configs again i like the updates. :D

Finally got a look at it today - it's really clean. I'm liking it. Pendrive is too small, so I'm just using the vmware image for now until I buy a new one.

There is a big in the current package updates that can do a lot of damage if unlucky.

In most cases, only Metasploit becomes un-useable. However, my filesystem decided to become read-only too :(

Asked around, seems a package got ****ing mangled.

I usually pull metasploit down from the svn server as the latest development scripts are worth it.

The read only filesystem I'd take a look at the init scripts for the mount commands.

Just popped this onto a USB. Had problems with X-Server at the start giving errors. But once past that i think its a big improvement on BT4. The UI is nice and it seems a bit more fluid in the Menu system. Will look forward to testing it out over the next few days.

    USB/Persistent Changes use http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/
It easier to use than unibootin.

Seem to have issues with fastrack. Going to install on pendrive instead.
