Bray needs cyclists and people interested in improving transport infrastructure to help promote safe cycling in the area.

    Bray Cyclists Forum
Is a recently formed group of Bray bicycle owners and cyclists whose aims are:

to make cycling safer in Bray
to develop ‘safe ways to school’
    to link existing cycle lanes
    to encourage more cyclists
    to create more cycle lanes
    to increase recreational cycling
    to reduce car dependency
to promote cycling to local shops

If you have any ideas on how to make Bray a better, safer and easier place to cycle, would like more information or to join the group; Please add your details and we will keep you up to date with our progress.

Email braycyclistsforum "at" gmail.com to go on the mailing list and let your voice be heard. Or check out the facebook community page for upcoming meetings and events.

    Thank You

From what I recall a report was actually done on improving cycling infrastructure in Bray. I think it was done for Bray Town council as part of transport 21 and it may have been DTO (Dublin transport office) who made the report. My memory of it is a bit sketchy I'm afraid :)

The town council did try and implement cycle lanes for the cycle to school scheme but they had some difficulties. You could save yourself some time by getting on to the council or even a councillor, Ciaran O'Brien of the green party would be a good bet.

FYI I briefly worked in Bray Town Council. Unfortunately all the cycling stuff was done before my time there

If you have any ideas on how to make Bray a better, safer and easier place to cycle,

remove all the scumbags would be the easiest way to make Bray safer, it also has the benefit of not only applying to cyclists :p

But aside from that was in Bray today on the bike:
    1. the roads are in bits, fix them, especially the left hand margins
    2. lines defining cycle lanes on the road are faded and missing in stretches
    3. plenty of cars parked blocking cycle lanes
    4. a few stupid lanes that go road to footpath to road and / or feed very badly into junctions, not giving cyclist the same priority as other road traffic.

They had an issue with this actually, near Pres. College (at least thats where I asked about), and so they didn't put up the signs that make it a legal requirement to cycle in those lanes. As I said, a lot of this has been covered by the council so you would be quicker getting onto them

There's a stretch of cycle lane on the Boghall Road near Schering Plough / Old Dell building, that whilst it's on the footpath, is also the entrances to a row of houses, and it is like the Rhythm section on a BMX track, up,down, up down. Most of the cycle lane in the Vevay, the top surface has broken away and is potholed, and not the town planners fault, but whoever came up with the original idea, that is rife in this country of sharing cycle lanes/tracks and footpaths with pedestrians, and across the front or back of bus shelters, is , to put it mildly a gobs***e

There is a maximum of 15 students out of 600 that cycle to and from Pres (less than the number of students that drive). The Putland Rd just isn't safe to cycle on.

Please don't ask for more cycle-lanes without first making it clear that bad cycle-lanes (on footpath or designed so that cyclists can't use junctions) are worse than no cycle-lanes at all.

that's scandalously low. I went to Clonkeen, must have been 100-120 out of 420 ish that cycled. The bike cage was always full and bikes were lined up along the whole length of the back of the school

Sorry to revive old thread, but the junction of Boghall/Killarney Road has had broken lights and crossing for more than three years.

If were forced to use the bike lane the least they could do is make it usable.
