I'm currently considering taking up membership in one of the above clubs.

Does anyone know if they offer a direct debit / monthly installment option on their annual subs?

Also if you join mid-year are you eligible for the full year subs or is it pro-rata?

    Cheers.

No idea but I'd take seapoint in a flash over the others.

I can only speak for Seapoint.

Their year runs from August to August. So if you joined today you would pay the full yearly amount + the amount from now to August. They are strict in their sign up and under no circumstances will they accept direct debit/monthly installment.

They did when the previous general manager (John Short, formerly of Golf Digest) worked there but since he left (around 6 month's ago) they are now operating a strict payment option which basically is pay up front or find somewhere else.

Seapoint's joining fee for 7-day member is €1,500. Online booking is in operation for Saturday and Sunday competition. If you aren't on the ball at 4pm each Friday, you have zero chance of getting a slot.

The course is always in superb condition. It's very similar to Baltray but just not as tricky. You can usually get your desired tee-time anytime during the week.

PS: There is a large amount of lady members and it can be a right pain in the bum when you are caught up in the middle of them during the week

Roganstown does offer a DD option for membership subscriptions over an 8 month period. Subscriptions are from January - December with DD from January to August. For members joining for the first time after April there is a discounted subscription for the first year to take into account the months lost - so the answer to both your questions is yes - just call the golf shop on 01-8433118 and they will give you all the details.

    Full Ordinary Membership - €1500.00
(includes Entrance Fee and all 2011 Subscription Fees)

Introductory Offer Full 7 Day Playing Membership - €950.00

There are facilities to both pre-pay and post-pay by DD.

Details can be found on the Web Page at http://www.hollywoodlakesgolfclub.com/

I'd recommend you play all 3 courses and consider all criteria which matter to you before deciding.

If you are looking around that general area you may also want to look at Ashbourne GC. It would tick a lot of your boxes in terms of currently doing a good deal on new membership, monthly intalments, on line timesheet etc. Of the other three you mentioned my favorite would be Seapoint.

Many thanks all for the replies.

Ashbourne is a fine course and another possibility - although Seapoint is my number one preference - it's just that having to stump up €1500 every August would be problematic.

The Seapoint €1500 7-day membership isn't cut in stone that it's every year. Golfers who have signed up via this method have been told it will run for the forseeable future. Given the financial struggle golf clubs are experiencing now and in future, I've no doubt it would continue for some time to come.

Golfers who bought in for €18,000 full investment in the club are now looking at their share worth around €5/6,000. The properties that are located on the golf course were once valued at €750,000, they can't sell at present for €300,000. The clubhouse itself (€1,000,000 cost) has put the club in financial stress, although they'll be quick to deny this.

Overall, for €1,500 it's probably worth signing up, just. I personally find that amount about €250 overpriced. You have a fantastic, well maintained golf course 11 months of the year, an excellent club house and facilities and a wide range of competitions. But, as said, you need to move swiftly at 4pm each Friday to grab a spot in those comps. If you join, and are stuck for a playing partner midweek, give me a shout anytime. I'm a member of Baltray GC but also play seapoint with friends on a regular basis.
