Wi-fi internet access and other communications are at risk from global warming unless measures are taken to protect them from rising temperatures and stormier weather, a government report warned on Monday.

Presenting the report, the secretary of state for the environment, Caroline Spelman, said that higher temperatures can reduce the range of wireless communications, rainstorms can impact the reliability of the signal, and drier summers and wetter winters may cause greater subsidence, damaging masts and underground cables.

The threat posed by climate change to internet and telephone access is a rare example of when the developed world would be hit harder than developing countries, which are in general more at risk from increased floods, droughts and rising sea levels.

Expected better from the Guardian.. Wifi like?

How much would the world have to change for somewhere like the UK to have problems with wifi considering where else it's used in the world.. And I don't think wifi would be our main concern if the earth heated up by 50 degrees.

    Shlt media.

In the 90's the main story the ozone layer and we were warned of CFC's. Thats seems to have disappeared, the ozone layer is fixed now I take it?
In the 00's we were warned about global warming and info on renewable fuels
Now in this decade we're being bombarded over climate change and carbon footprint

    Ozone layer
    Global Warming
    Climate Change
What's the next buzz word ??

    Getting tired of scare stories

As long as you don't let climate change into your house it should have no effect on your climate controlled wifi network.

WiFi is shyte anyway, use wires.

"Climate Change" is the result of poor computer modeling. Garbage in, Garbage out. The next decade meme will be Global Cooling. We will then turn the full circle on this crock.

Afaik there was a world wide agreement to stop the use of CFC's and if the o-zone is fixed surely this has shown we can do something about it!
