    Folllowing on from a couple of threads I have read & posted on in this forum.

    I am curious to know is wisdom tooth removal necessary ?

    I have been suffering with pain about a week now, its the worst pain Ive had as Ive never got it before to this degree.

    I got checked up abouts 3 months ago & the dentist didnt seem to point out if it was necessay or not to remove them since they were not impacted. I am having the pain in my lower right jaw. Gums swollen tooth seems to be partially erupted and trying to beak through the gum.
    Top two are fine no pains there ever.

    Its doing my head in, lashing the pain killers into me for it but its coming & going. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    I actually look like officer bar brady in my avatar. He looks like he has a swollen cheek from the pain !!

    Depends on the case really but main reasons are;
    unrestorable decay or decay to the adjacent tooth
    impaction causing decay, severe gum inflammation (pericoronitis)
    pathology- cysts, tumours etc...
    Any of the above causing a facial/ systemic infection
    prior to other treatment (cosmetic jaw surgery or some full mouth reconstructions or orthodontic plans)

    Sounds like you are in the pericoronitis grouping, the tooth doesn't even have to be that impacted looking. Sometimes a wisdom tooth appears erupted but lacks the hard keratinised gum cuff around it and so the gum health around it deteriorates causing pericoronitis and/or decay....

    More often than not, the solution is to bin the wisdom tooth. Sooner is better as infection/ decay usually only gets worse...
