Fashion Show: headpieces - what to shoot with?

Will position myself at the end of the runway, it's a mixed show but I'm after a collection of headpieces, wondering what glass to use.

I'm on a d80 (crop sensor) with poor noise handling (if anyone in Galway feels like lending me a d7000 for a night I'd bite your hand off!!).

I'm just starting to think about it, but I'm sort of torn between:

    1. 17-55mm nikkor f/2.8 af-s
    2. 50mm nikkor f/1.4 af-d
    3. 105mm nikkor f/2 af-d dc

I've my own opinions on the pro's and con's of each, but would like to hear yours!

    I'm guessing the 105mm f/2 followed by 17-55 2nd choice.

    Any time I've covered a show, I've used a 135 f/2 as my main and a 70-200 f/2.8IS as a backup, either on a 1DS3 or 5D2.

Depending on the show, I reckon your 105 f/2 will be your best bet. Get there early and make sure you're happy with the light where you're going to be shooting. Decide whether you want to shoot straight on or at a slight angle. The presumed image might be straight on down the catwalk, but with headwear (and assuming the whole show is based around the headwear), I'd think about shooting at an angle.

Fajitas, would you shoot wide open on the 135 and use AI servo focus?

I don't really like AI Servo, I'd use the other one that's not 'one shot' for just about everything. Or manual focus. The autofocus on the 135 is lightening fast, so I'm never too worried. Aperture-wise, it really depends. I'd not have any worries with shooting wide open though.

Interesting opinions, I guess I need to be far enough away if I'm on the 105 and hope nobody blocks me, though perhaps I could turn into a 'rude photographer' for one night. What's the betting someone has a post on here giving out about me the next day!?

    ****'em if they do.

As far as you're concerned, it's your job. If some dick lacks the professionalism and courtesy to see where someone else is working from, ****'em.

Went well - the other photographer there was really nice, she even moved completely away from me when my 'clients' pieces were on!

Thanks for the advice - pics to follow.

ps did it all with the 105, mmmmmm creamy bokeh!
