Difficulty seeing golf ball

I have pretty normal vision, with contact lenses, but have great difficulty in seing where my ball has gone for about 30/40% of my shots. When I do see it, I can follow it into the distance as well as anyone else. My problem is with picking up the flight of the ball at the start of the shot.

This is very frustrating for me and probably my playing partners as well, as I have to make sure someone else is watching before I hit any shot.

Anyone else suffer the same thing? Any ideas? I think I might try yellow/orange ball for a while. could try glasses but hate that when it rains.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

When you lose them are they still going straight?
Also are you playing the game long? It does take a little bit to get used to where to start looking for the ball with each club...

I wear glasses playing, and they certainly are a pain in the ass. While the lads i play with a very nice about keeping an eye on my ball i was never fully happy as i was having the same issue as you... i could see the flight, but could never pin pojnt the landing area.

While my eyesight isn't that bad, most folks who try on my glasses dont' see much difference, i got my eyes tested and my with my new glasses i can see exactly where it lands, pin pointing the bush it landed near etc.

I've also used yellow balls for a time to pick up the flight, and it worked the treat.

Thanks for the replys guys, my first post here.

The ball could be straight up the middle, but if I dont pick it up at the start, I cant see it at all, ,maybe sometimes see it landing. I've been playing off and on for over 30 years and would be experienced enough, but handicap high.

I think I will try the yellow ball for a round or two, cant do any harm. I think my eyesight is fine to be honest, its more like I have a problem getting an initial sight of the ball. Played a shot yesterday from middle of fairway, felt great but I hadnt a clue where it went and didnt find it. Had to play another ball, very frustrating.

Do you have problems watching other peoples balls?

Probably similar to my own actually. Its a bit of joke amongst the fourball when someone asks me to keep and eye on a shot for them.

    Have you tried tinted lenses?
Read up about Nike MaxSight lenses (developed by Nike and Bausch & Lomb).
Quich search here where it mentions grey-green for golf but you should ask your optician for a trial of a few different options.

I would suggest you talk to an optician or eye specialist about this and explain your predicament and get your eyes checked properly. I played with a player a couple of times who told me that he has a medical condition affecting his peripheral vision. Hopefully you're fine but it would be good to get checked out by a professional.

Do you have difficulty driving an automobile also? (just for context)

No, I'm fine driving the car.

Have had a full eye test in the last few months, didnt mention anything to him about this issue. Might be worth going back to check if he has ever heard of it before.

    Thanks.

Usually would be similiar story watching other peoples shots actually.

I have the same problem. I can rarely see the flight of my drive. I can see the all my rest of my shots though no problem. Luckly I play with people who act as spotters though... It does get embarrassing when they point out the direction the ball went and I walk to to that spot and can't find the ball, clue a lot of head scratching all around.

Looking for balls must take up at least 30 - 40% of my time going on a golf round. Do others spend similar time going around???

I have the same problem if wearing glasses but with contacts in there shouldnt be a problem, are you wearing good quailty lens

I am playing 10 years or so and cannot see any shot that goes over 50 yards :(

I have tried to get my eye sorted but having just recently come home from seeing a specialist abroad nothing can be done. I know what you mean by having some-one watching your shots. I have never played a round on my own :(

Depends what type of prescription you have actually. I you have astigmatism and need toric lenses sometimes an exact prescription can't be got, leading to lenses being worse than glasses.

I get the same thing with the driver now and again. I don't have glasses or contacts, nor do I have any sight issues, near or far.

It's weird, but maybe one drive in each round, I won't see the flight after it leaves the club-face. Sometimes I can pick it up in the air, based on the feeling of the strike and where it's likely to have gone. Other times, I won't see it at all. Not necessarily always with good or bad shots either. No idea what causes it.

Has never happened with anything other than a driver.

My bad shot is an up-and-out-of-it kind of swing, where I've no trouble seeing the ball as I'm looking at the fecking fairway before I've even got to impact. So my only guess is in my efforts to stay down and in the shot, that I'm looking up "too" late, or something?

That could also be complete boll*x.

You should get your peripheral vision tested. There are pretty comprehensive tests for this, as it seems like the problem is when the ball initially comes into your field of view.
