Network Connection Problem

    Hi,

I've got a really weird problem that nobody else on the internet seems to have ever had before.. ever O.o

I'm running Vista on my laptop which is a Dell XPS M1530. When I try to get a list of available network connections, it won't work. And by that I mean, when I click on 'Connect or Disconnect' on the Network Sys Tray popup yoke it just does nothing. It doesn't even give me a loading cursor. Same thing happens in Network and Sharing Centre when I click on 'Connect to a Network'.

The laptop will still connect to the internet; If I put a network cable in it goes to that network automatically and the default wireless connection still works.

I'm not even sure what's wrong with it so I havn't done much to try and fix it beyond rebooting, checking for network problems and scanning for viruses (which turned up 2 infections but I quarantined them and I'm still having the problem).

It first stopped working while I was downloading stuff with JDownloader and hasn't worked since. It wasn't the first time I've used that program or anything either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok you have scanned for virus but what did you use?

    1. First of all have you installed anything since it worked last.

    2. I would download malwarebytes and run in safe mode.

    3. Go to the dell driver and software for your computer then download latest network driver and software.

    4. Also maybe worth checking for a new bios upgrade.

    5. If all above fails then try a system restore to when you know it was working.(doning this will roll back the computer to that date and remove any changes you have made from then to now. beware.)

    Regards
    John
