I have an aerial on my roof/chimney
I now have a tv in kitchen
What would be a reasonable cost to run a cable from aerial to the tv to pick up saorview, its already done previously from the sat dish for the free sat channels ,so it just needs to follow the same route,
    living close to cork city,

just looking for a ball park as I dont know anybody in this line of work,

sounds like a diplexer will do the job - it will run Sat and DTT on the one cable. You need one at the top to combine, one at the bottom to split again. Probably a good idea to order some cable + f-connectors to create fly leads

Wouldn't know the cost as I do my own.

It's possible to join the new cable into the existing one without going all the way to the aerial. DIY job, splitter or distribution amp required.

ok,thanks....:confused:I'm a bit confused as I dont really follow your techy terms

as it stands i have cables running from sat & aerial down behind my downpipe and into front room of house for main tv......this is fine

when i got sky hd last year the installer dropped another cable into my attic and i have my old box , so recently I brought this down through the back of a wardrobe upstairs and straight into a unit in the kitchen giving me freesat channels.......
I was hoping to follow this route with the new cable from the aerial for saorview...... or pay someone to do same,

a few years ago I'd get on the roof no prob and I'd do the work myself
the problem being I havent a clue what to do or look for or whats needed, and I'd be a little afraid of messing with roof tiles

If you already have cable running from your aerial you don't anything else, other than a compatible tv or a set top box. (assuming you have a signal from the aerial).

You say you are near the city but whereabouts?

Much of the City is covered by Spurhill transmittter near the airport.

Before you go to the expense of paying someone to run a cable, try to see if you can get saorview with an uhf indoor aerial. (Get one in argos and bring it back for a refund if it doesn't work.)

Bring TV upstairs first (more likely to tune in signal upstairs).

If you get signal then try TV in kitchen.

If this does not work then you could follow the plan suggested by other posters.

What they mean is that you could split the cable coming from the aerial on the roof and using some fittings and some cable you can then cut the sat cable and join the tv cable to the sat cable so that the tv and sat signal enter the house through the one cable. You then need another device to split the signal in two at the tv. This could be a messy inconvenient option depending on where the existing tv cable is in relation to the kitchen.

If you want to do it that way the things you need an outdoor diplexer and and indoor diplexer and sat cable can be bought in Dwyers in forge hill near airport. Its not difficult but you'd have to know what you are doing and you will need detailed instruction from this forum if thats what you want to do.

Possibly the easiest option is to run the cable from the aerial, drill a hole in kitchen wall and run the cable to the tv that way. If you get someone to do this I'd guess it will cost around 100 euro.

    thanks trevord, €100 sounds ok
ya what i expect is to bring cable into attic (could be brought to bedrooms from here if ever wanted) from aerial and then down to kitchen unit through upstairs wardrobe which is directly above tv unit in kitchen,no drilling walls etc needed, dont have/want cables on skirtings etc.......does my head in seeing same
