Shannon's stalwart Andrew Thompson has announced his retirement from rugby, he must surely be the most decorated club player in the country, holder of 9 AIL medals.
As Shannon RFC look ahead to a new season with a new coaching regime in place , they will have to do so without the services of one of the country’s most decorated club players ever.

After struggling to get back to full fitness over the last few years, nine times All Ireland league winner Andrew Thompson officially announced his retirement from playing.

At tender age of 37 years, Thompson’s decision to hang up his boots came after another season of frustration. where he spent more time trying to reach his own high standards of fitness to a stage where he could meaningfully contribute to the club which he has been involved with since 1991.

A great player for Shannon. Hope he's not lost to the game. He always gave 100% and I thought kept his best performances for games against Dublin clubs.
Showed those Lady boys a thing two.

Haven't heard that term uttered in a while. I wonder why?
