For the last night or two, there have been really loud helicopters passing over the house (am in Clondalkin) to and from Baldonnel, definitely not the Garda or regular Irish Army or Coastguard choppers(can identify each one of them by sound alone they pass over so often!)does anybody know if they are British Army helis?

Various aircraft do visit from time to time. The AW139s are quite loud.

Yes the A139's are loud and it has been a little colder at night the last few nights which will make them sound louder than the warmer nights

Not much of a secret if your intercept exercises are broadcast over standard VHF in the clear for all the hear. :p Spent an entertaining hour or two listening in recently. Very interesting.

Was there one again tonight? Thought it very strange where there 45 minutes ago a heli came in over dun laoghaire harbour. Came from east/ne and continued inland. Obviously too dark to see anything bar the 2 green lights front and back.

Intercept something with a helicopter? Just a ground based something surely?

No, intercepting helicopters in a PC9. Tricky with no radar on board. All a bit Battle of Britain complete with silly callsigns.

I'm not sure why it should be a big secret anyway. All pilots and potential terrorists should be aware they will be intercepted if they get too close. I'd say the most likely scenario is a helicopter lifting off from a private site oblivious to the goings on.
