Okay I was off work for the past three weeks, my sleep patterns are all over the shop, didnt get up till 1 today, so i'm thinking id be better off staying up all night rather than tossing and turning all night because I wont get to sleep because i'm not tired.

    Anyone ever do this?

I've done it a good few times, it never seems to work though. In fact I got up horrifically late today so I'm gonna be up all night too. I can never sleep if I'm not tired and if I am i usually over sleep, it's turning into a vicious cycle.

Done it loads of times. Its horrible. You're better off even geting one or two hours. Its not good for you.

Same here, I just cant bring myself to get up early if i'm not working.

I'm afraid if I go to bed i wont get to sleep till 5 or 6 i will sleep it out for work.

Yeah Vodka would work alright but you probably wouldn't want to be doing too much tomorrow tho.

Exam tomorrow and for the next 2 weeks so doing a few all nighters.

    You got work tomorrow?

Normally to get my speep pattern back to normal i go to bed late say 4am then set my alarm so i only get 4 hours sleep - stay awake all day then by 12-1am you'll be off the sleep

I used to have trouble sleeping, so what I would do was do a workout in order to try to tire myself out. Added bonus was I put on a good bit of muscle.

    I find reading helps.

Also, work up the resolve to get up in the morning at 8-9am in order to force your body to return to a normal sleeping pattern.

I worked nights for a couple of years, and it took a fair bit of effort to return to a normal sleeping pattern after I left the job.

I did it back in January. Was a few weeks from starting a new job and my nightowling was out of hand. I wasnt getting to sleep until 6am.
So one saturday night (was starting employment the following Wednesday) i decided to stay awake all night and get to about 9pm Sunday night. I would then go to bed and get a long nights sleep to get up at 9am the following morning. Managed to get to 11am before sleeping without stirring in the same spot until 5pm.
Not a cool couple of days were had afterwards.

Ouch - maybe try get some sleep even just for an hour or two.

Do you have work tomorrow? If so don't do an all nighter as you will be a mess come 5pm. Also dodgy driving. It's fine to do to fix your sleep pattern if you've nothing to do but not good if you have to function the next day. Go for a fast walk for twenty min then when you get home relax with a book or something for about an hour before trying to go to sleep.

Tried it many's a time, usually fall asleep about 8-9am then my sleep pattern was even worse. Now i get a course of 14 sleeping tablets every 3 months and take 1 or 2 a week when/if i find my sleep pattern getting worse.

Do you have a couch or an armchair or something? Less comfortable than sleeping on a bed but more so than staying up all night, believe me.

I think i will follow the advice of everyone and try and get a few hours sleep

A trick i find that works and anybody can try this -

Lie down - make sure you're relaxed -

close your eyes and imagine yourself lying down in the exact way tht you are -

Now this might sound confusing but try to get inside the head of the person your imagining and imagine that you're imagining yourself imagining that you are lying in a bed - like a mirror effect

    You're still online!

I did it a few times in work, sometimes through no fault of my own, just could not sleep, its a rotten feeling the next day.

Unless you stay up drinking tea/sugar/coffee all night that is, in that case you'll be like the duracell bunny tomorrow

Done my self before to sort out my sleep pattern.Getting up at 1 in the day is a fixed sleep pattern to me though.Im actually doing the opposite tonight.Need to be up at 4.30 am Monday night/Tuesday morning so staying up till 6am/7am and wake up late tomorrow.

Just be careful you actually do a all night-er and can hack it.Nothing worse than failing falling asleep at like 6am and waking up at 5pm the next day with a even worse pattern :P
