2002 Ford Focus Bonnet Release

    Hi there,

I'm having a spot of bother with the lock mechanism on my 02 Ford Focus. It played up on me before by being stiff and reluctant to turn to the left ( to pop it ) but would turn to the right ( to open it ) with no effort at all. Now when I twist the key to the left, it just twists but won't pop the bonnet, which means I cannot open my bonnet. Trouble is, I am due a service and the alternator is gone on the blink, when it rains it pours, eh! Is there anyone there at all that could give me an alternative way of opening it, other than the wise cracks I've had such as " don't know about you, but I think it's a job for the grinder " or " I'll get my sledge from the shed if you like!? "...... any advice or help would be gratefully appreciated!

You need a new locking mechanism, I got mine replaced on my 2007 Focus only last month, costs around €40 + whatever labour is

What about opening the bonnet in order to being able to replace it?

I had a Mondeo before with a broken mechanism... Went to the extreme and broke the grill and took out the mechanism, a long screw driver then can fit into the slot where the mechanism used to and pop it and open it.

Blast it with wd40 before resorting to brute force ;).

You get in from underneath the car or else go the easier but more costly road and break the grill and replace that too.
