As above, got permission of a farmer up the road from me last week. Doing vermin control and he's letting me build a pen for pheasants.

He asked me did I see a big brown goat rambling around?
I said no not yet, and asked how big he was?
He said it was pushing on between 4 and 5 feet, couldnt be certain as it was a nice bit away.
Then I asked had it horns?
He said ya, small ones. Very small at that he said.

The land itself is horse grazing land, good quality soil and good pasture. It has loads of trees on the permimeter. The tree area is a good 30 to 50 yards wide all road for a couple of miles. Also down further there is another farm that has what looks like can be described as very big xmas trees in an area, about 600yards square.

What is it? A deer or a goat. Ive been up there alot recently trying to spot this mysterious thing :pac: but seen nothing. Is there any signs to look out for to show deer in the area?

Thanks in advance for the help

going by the area your in its most likely a deer, there is a few (2 or 3) in the local wood from what i hear, but i have never heard of them being that far from the wood.. i dont think there are goats in the area the nearest herd of goats are about 20 miles away and they have nearly all been culled in the last year or so.

Thanks for that Jap. Must try get a positive id of this deer now and see what breed it is.

Do all dear usually graze in groups or would they be solitaire animals? Be great if there was a nice few.

Also if a person was to apply to get lets say a 22.250 that person would need to get a deer licence first ya? and 3 farmers permission but does there need to be alot of dear to get it on these farmers lands?

3 farmers not required for deer, you only have space for one farmers name and details on application anyway.

But just as one swallow does not make a summer, one deer does not get one a permit.

I know that one deer wont get you a permit, not that any sane person would get a permit for one deer and kill the sport in the area.

Crawl before you can walk, see if there is more then one there :D

there are away to little deer in the area to get a permit, i know of only 3 stalkers in the area, and they all go to kilarney to stalk, the few deer that are around are left alone by the farmers as far as i know, they are rare sight in this part of the county
