First of all we need more info.

Your existing system is heated by the fire with no radiators connected. We need to make sure that the new radiator and cylinder are compatible with each other.

There are two types of cylinder.

Direct. As in the water in the cylinder is the same water as in the back boiler. Ie no coil but connections from boiler at base and about 1/3rd from top of the cylinder. A big clue is if your back boiler on your stove is stainless steel and there will only be one tank in loft feeding the cylinder.

Indirect, Will have a coil in with two seperate cold feed tanks. One to feed the cylinder and one to feed the water to the back boiler.
Have you any pipes going from the 2 cylinder side connections to a cold feed tank? Is it possible to post a picture of your hotpress?

The main reasons we need to know what your cylinder is, is if you fitted a radiator to a direct system your rad would rust internally and rust coloured water would run out from the hot taps. The only two options would be to install a radiator made from copper or install a new Indirect cylinder.

i have only the one cold feed tank, and just a back boiler in open fire, with hotpress next to fireplace, also the radiator will be installed no more than about seven feet from hotpress and fire, the back boiler is about twenty yrs old it is all straightforward just hot water for washing is what it has been giving all along, i am also looking for one of those all night burner firegrates which would make great savings in solid fuel bill

It sounds very much like a direct cylinder system and so you either need to replace the cylinder to an indirect with coil or buy a radiator made of copper. Otherwise if you installed a steel radiator it would rust very quickly because of fresh re oxiginated water and you would have rusty water from your hot taps:(.

Get a plumber in to confirm, Stove Fan:)
