Best way to get gas into house?

    Hey Guys

Posted another question here on external gas boiler but also looking for option. Below is high level layout of house, house is 2 story house and gas line runs along the road at front of house. Bord Gais Networks said last time I checked they would run gas line up to front of house and then it would be up to me.

I have converted the garage into a bedroom and utility room and put a slanted roof on the garage to replace the flat room. This is only part of house not 2 story. Last time I talked to RGI installer, they wanted to drill hole in wall at window in old garage, run pipes along the skirting straight to the utility room. They would install the boiler in utility. When I asked how they would get water across to connect to where the current pipes run into the house from the old Kerosene boiler. He then wanted to run pipes in the wall right across the house either on outside or inside to connect up.

I have only redone up house in last few years with new kitchens etc and this would be a mess. I talked to a mate this morning and he suggested running pipes with gas over the garage roof, along the wall and install an external boiler.

The other option is to just replace current boiler which is in a shed about 9M back from house, but instead of putting in shed move to external boiler just at connection point of pipes into house. Really would like to change to gas so any idea's?

Get the gas Co to position the new supply Meter on the outside of the Garage / Utility area. Then you just have to run the supply from the Meter through the Wall into the Utility room and connect to new gas boiler. All the gas company require that there is access to the meter for reading and possible servicing.

OK yes that would be simple only the garage/utility room has been done up and al new wooden floors etc are installed. Also the water for the heating goes into the house on the other side, how to get the hot water from boiler to pipes?

It really depends on how neat you want it to look. You can always go surface with the pipework. Or you can lift some of your new floor and do it right. A days work at most for what will be done for a lifetime. As to the heating pipes you can always connect into the heating circuit in the utility area and blank off the old connections.

Well how big is the pipe if I had to run it up the wall and over the roof?

ITs an open system and the pipes that come in on cornor go up to attic and then heat flows down from there, there is a rad in garage/attic but I wouldn't think you would be able to link in here.
