Getting a job in Germany for the summer?

I'm in Leaving Cert at the moment and I've four months to spend, preferably earning money. I was looking at going to Germany for four months until college starts, to try and become fluent, or at least as very good. I've been on three German language courses in the last three summers, but this will hopefully be my first serious attempt at learning German properly.

Has anyone gone over to Germany, gotten a job and stayed there for a few months? Also, I know a few people I could stay with until I got accomodation sorted. Hoping to do Mechanical Engineering in UL next year, and from there, live in Switzerland (I'll get by with hochdeutsch there).

    :)

Depends on what area/city you intend on going too- casual employment opportunities can vary a lot from region to region.
The likes of Munich would have a lot of casual jobs, Berlin less so.

I've been to both on the language courses. I like Munich more, but they're much harder to understand.

    serious?

Unfortunately the Munich accent/ dialect is dying out and most <35 years old speak with hochdeutch or with a southern german tinge of an accent.

anyhow, if you can mutter a few words of coherent german, theres no lack of casual jobs in Munich. Lots of shops/ cafes etc have notices in the windows that they are hiring. And theres always the beergardens who need people to collect glasses and whatnot on a casual basis.

Are you talking about "Schwarzarbeit"? They seem to be cracking down big time on that.
