Diesel shop that can test common rail injectors

I've got someone that has a sick Ford 1.6TDCi engine. Car failed NCT on emissions (4.5, limit 3.0) and I looked at it today. Low revs and car is clean. Rev it to limit and very grey smoke comes out and engine momentarily sounds like machine-gun like. The car was fully serviced before the test and the oil and all of the filters were done. the engine runs sweetly otherwise and drives well. A scan for fault codes shows none.

I suspect that an injector slightly is failing under load but I'm not 100% sure - an injector leak off test will be a good place to start ;) So assuming I might be right, can anyone recommend a good diesel shop between North county Dublin and Drogheda that can test these injectors. I think they are Delpi.

What do you want ? A leak back test or the injectors removed for bench testing?
What scan tool did you use for the fault codes? as these can be fussy.

Very common for the injector sealing washers to leak and egr to stick.

What miles is on the car?

    Regards.

    Hi shamwari,
Sounds like and injector problem alright...
It maybe also worth checking/cleaning the egr valve also.
    Is it the 110bhp..??
As you know yourself a leakoff test if the only real way of checking the injectors without pulling them out and sending them off.
All i know is Glessons in tipperary http://www.dieselinjectionservices.ie/index.html
and there is also a lad in Shercock, Co. Cavan http://www.des.ie/

i think the injectors in the dv6 engine are Bosch..
The usally charge around €180 for a reconditioned injector.

I was replacing a cam chain in a c4 1.6hdi a few weeks ago and the
injectors were rusted in the head......had to make up a pullers to get them out....

Leak off test would be first port of call to identify an injector which is not behaving the way it is supposed to. However if problem relates to load performance then leak off test might not make any difference.

I used Autoboss scanner and found no codes for either injectors or EGR - the EGR system on these is a known weak spot but these will log a code if it misbehaves.

If the seals were blown we would have chuffing, but that isn't evident. Car has around 80k miles on it and drives ok, except for excessive smoke / clatter @ max rpm.

Hi Row and hope you are well! The car is the 110bhp. Those injectors nearly fuse into the head as you know, and extraction can be a nightmare. I am told that coca cola is good for breaking the carbon up...;)

I've had a chat with the owner and she's going to ring Shercock hereself and see if they will check the car onsite (which I think they will by appointment). I've dealt with Shercock before and found them very good. I can do leak off tests but I'm reluctant to get involved because I dont' want to risk removing and breaking an injector in the head.
The injectors might be Bosch but I think they are Delphi.....time will tell.

    Will keep ya posted...:)

Nearest place to you would be Drogheda Diesel. They're in on the quays, and they've a website here. Worth a try...
