A mate of mine reckons that he read that Motor Tax for pre 08 cars is going to change to CO2 based by 2013 - anyone know if this is the case?

Dunno, but I'd like to figure out if that would be a good or a bad thing for my current car!

It may. If it does we'll fin out in the budget a month before hand. Beyond this it's speculation and nobody can give you a definite answer

no chance, the gov will loose €€€€€€'s in revenue.

The taxation system is creating a lot of interest at present. For example an 07 focus diesel would cost around 600 to tax and an 08 around 120 ?? Gonna be difficult to sell 06 and 07s.
Also many who are buying cars now are buying on low emissions and this is going to reduce the motor tax intake quite a bit. So what action will the government take to aleviate this shortfall ????

But would they really? Thered be a lot of cars with high emissions that tax would increase on.

    Prediction :-

They will simply apply a percentage increase across the board to all bands in both emissions and engine CC categories. We will all pay more.

Emissions should be on the log book.

It would put mine over 2 grand going by the currect bands/rates.

Can't see it changing as simple as that though.

Jap import. My logbook doesn't even know what kind of car it is, and apparently it has more power than a space shuttle!

Oh right sorry. Tis on mine.

EDIT: Citizens Info has a link to this site for checking cars emissions:

I know its not relevant to most people at the moment but interesting to look.
