There seems a real innocence to it compared to all the cynicism and negativity we have in our country today.

Great memories even tho I was only 12!

It will never be the same as Italia '90 tho and the rugby will end in big disappointment as usual!

In fairness, I think Italia 90 kinda ended in disappointment too. Great show and all, but they didn't come out on top, which kinda spells disappointment.

No expectation tho and it was all new to us! First ever World Cup and we reached the last 8, great achievement even tho we had a super squad of players.

You'll have some clowns believing we can win the Rugby WC this year and it'll end up with the team making a show of themselves again like 4 years ago!

Fair point, man. Not a big sports fan myself, and hadn't considered the that they hadn't entered the world cup before.

In fairness Against all expectations and as italia 90 was the first time we ever got International recognition in a sport on such a large scale it surely lifted the country to heights we will never see again,as once you do it once its never the same is it.

I remember the 80s and everyone was just as cynical.

Its the Irish sense of humour and self deprecation.

    DeV.

The haircuts, the glasses, the cheering in front of camera, the utter drunken stupidity.

    Can't be unseen. :pac:

Some shootout though, remember my Dad started recording the game at the start of extra time, on our new video recorder!

Back in 1990 if you walked down Dublin's O'Connell Street late on a Saturday night there would have been a good chance of getting murdered. Not beaten up, murdered. Great times indeed!

About eight months after we qualify for another major football tournament, of course you will! Although the innocence is gone. We're corrupt capitalist bastards now, and there's no going back. We've gone soft.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Italia 90 was a unique and never to be repeated moment in irish sport.

The only way it will be topped is if we actually win a world cup.
