I tried cracking a few jokes about my problems with one or two I have been to over the years. Sometimes they laugh but I suppose if they joined in the craic it might be odd.

Actually a few weeks ago the one that calls upto me once a week asked would next Friday be ok to call up. I said yeah no worries ill be here anyways. He couldn't stop laughing because I suffer from really bad agoraphobia and rarely leave my house at all.

You'll occasionally find one with a strong positive correlation between good jokes and laughter.

I don't really know any psychology jokes, though I'm sure there are lots of Freudian ones about.

Saw this online today, made me laugh

A psychiatrist was conducting a group therapy session with four young mothers and their small children. "You all have obsessions," he observed.

To the first mother he said, "You are obsessed with eating. You even named your daughter Candy."

He turned to the second mom. "Your obsession is money. Again, it manifests itself in your child's name, Penny."

He turned to the third mom. "Your obsession is alcohol and your child's name is Brandy."

At this point, the fourth mother got up, took her little boy by the hand and whispered, "Come on, Dick, let's go home."

A behaviorist walks into a bar and asks the bartender

"Sorry, have you seen my pigeon?"

The bar tender points to the left and says

"He's over there beside the vending machine, and will you please tell him to stop pecking the dart board."

Definition of a Freudian slip: when you say one thing but mean your mother....

Two behavioural psychologists finish making love. One of them turns to the other and says "Well I know it was good for you - how was it for me?"
    :p

Heard this from the late Prof Nolan with the modification that it was 2 psychologists who bumped into each other at a conference..... :D

*(Professor Nolan was a Jesuit, and/but much loved in UCD)

I'm sure you've all heard this old psychology joke: once you hear about confirmation bias, you start seeing it everywhere!

Anyone who thinks psychology is a real science has a sense of humour.

In regards to seeing a psychiatrist/ologist and making jokes about your situation or events, I've found they seem a bit uncomfotable with jokes.

"you've a very dark sense of honour" - oh if i only have a euro everytime it was said...

and i had to laugh about the 'i'll be here anyways' comment, that is amusing

    ALSO!

    Frasier.
