Top Button on Shirt look

I think it's a good look. The only thing is to make sure the shirt is the right fit or it will be gaping at the buttons.

Not a fan personally and I hate hate hate cardigans on men, I just don't think it looks very masculine at all.

The Fred Perry tops with the buttons closed, too preppy looking IMO and whenever I picture a man in a cardi they always have a side parted comb over.

    i believe that too

i think you can only run that risk if the shirt is a bit large, therefore you could easily have like you said gaps.

But other than that i like the look.

Although be sure on the fit you dont want it to be too tight at the neck

I don't like the look of it personally.

A lot of my friends wear their shirts like that, but then the others, wear them a little open with a t-shirt or vest under it.

yeah i think both looks are good,

the shirt open with a tee underneath is a good look too..

but i dont think im a fan of the shirt opened with a long v neck tee.

it kinda looks like a member of a boyband, but it can suit some people though

First pic it looks OK but that second picture it just looks way too hipster with the hat and a ss shirt.

I have a thing for collar bones, probably why I like shirts open.......
those long v neck tshirts you mentioned though are just wrong IMO..ew.

I think men look nice in fitted clothes, not tight clothes.

yeah your right the first pic looks cool.

I can't stand it when the top button is done. For some reason I always think it makes the wearer look a bit socially inept and that they'd been dressed by their mother.

I think it looks awful, Fred Perry stuff is fairly dire as clothes go too. Big No to a cardi on males too. Unless they're oaps.

i supose it depends on your style..each to their own and all that

i quite like fred perry polos, their a good fit and i like the look of them but thats just my opinion (although they are quite pricey)

is that not a bit harsh, people just like the look and style of it.

i think the idea of it looking somewhat nerdy is a thing of the past these days

I don't like polos to be honest. I think there's nothing better on a guy than a nice plain open collar shirt.

Maybe I'm just attracted to guys with bad fashion sense!!

I wouldn't say it looks nerdy, I think that top button buttoned, diving v necks, cardi and skinny jeans are not remotely masculine. Each to their own and imo of course etc etc etc

I never said anything about being nerdy.... Hate that expression.............

I don't think it's nerdy either, in fact I think it makes people look like they're trying too hard to be cool.....

I have a son in junior infants and even he doesn't wear his polo shirt buttons done up :)

It can look great, see guys into street wear pull it off really well with shirts never polos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 147 ✭✭tommmy

sorry perhaps nerdy was the wrong choice of word.

thanks for all of your input

    :)

I like the top button of a shirt closed, I think it looks more groomed personally.

i agree, its a nice way to wear shirts and that

No way to closed on the polo thingy....but i hate those kind of t-shirts on anyone open or closed.

second shirt closed = yes please :D also am a huge fan of cardigans on a guy...(as long as neither are worn with skinny jeans!...then it turns into hipster overkill territory!)

Although it totally depends on the guy tbh, some people can pull it off, others can't same with all styles i guess

I think it can depend on how the guy is styled.. I am not a fan of 'top button open with tie' combo though. If a guy has a tie, I like the top button to be closed!

As some have said, a well-fitting shirt is a must, otherwise it could look like the poor fella is about to die of asphyxia!

aright ok,but i wasnt really talking about with tie.

just with reference to the two images on the first post

    :)

have a feeling people started doing this more and more because of this : :)

Maybe and maybe not, perhaps it is Cook from Skins who started the trend.

Nevertheless it doesnt look that bad.

Although i think it looks better with that kind of a polo thats just my view on it
