Screen isn't working, no visible damage?

Hey guys just wondering if ye have any ideas on what exactly is wrong, or what I can do about it *fingers crossed!*.

Samsung NP-R530 laptop, software isn't really relevant here.
I stupidly didn't take out an extra warranty on it, have had it since Easter weekend 2010. Got it in DID.

Opened laptop yesterday and discovered the screen wasn't working. Guessing it was a younger brother after slamming it or dropping it.

Tried rebooting and replacing the battery to no avail.
Tried using a both a monitor and a tv (via HDMI lead) to see if I could get an image but neither are working. That leads me to think that its a problem not with the screens wiring, but with the graphics card.

    To summarise,
    • Screen not working
    • External displays also show nothing
    • Laptop turning on fine, just can't see anything.
    • Possibly graphics card?
Any ideas at all on what I can do, or if anyone can think of what the problem could be?

When you say it's turning on fine, do you hear the windows login prompt?

With no display on the screen or external then the graphics card on the motherboard is probably gone. With graphics cards in laptops mostly soldered to the board, it's likely that you'll need to source a new motherboard.

Yeah couple of people have mentioned the graphics card being soldered. I'm not even hearing anything on the laptop so I'm not exactly optimistic right now.

This would be the laptop I have:

    2 quick things to check:

Just to rule out the screen, I know you connected the external monitor but its only going to take a minute.

Turn on the laptop and shine a light on the screen, can you see dim images.
If you can then the backlight is not working.

This can be because of either an inverter or the screen needs to be replaced.

Also take out the battery / charger and hold power button for a few seconds.

Connect adapter without battery and try turning it on.
