Looking for previous car

In 2009 I sold my first car - a 1991 Volvo 480 ES to a guy from Cork. It was then sold on again to someone from Wateford but I pass through there quite regularly and have never seen it.

I spent an awful lot of money on this car, it had a few electrical faults but the engine and body were excellent. I'd just really like to know if it's still running so if anybody has seen it or is aware of it please let me know.

It was metallic grey with black bumpers, bbs-style 'GT' alloys, '91-C' registration and had quite a long NCT at the time of selling, this would have just run out by now.

I'd imagine it's probably rotting in a field somewhere but it would be nice to discover otherwise.

    Hey, I think I know you :)

Chances are your 480 is sitting in a shed (if it's lucky) or parked behind a house somewhere. It seems to happen to 480s a lot ... ahem ...

They're still too (comparitively) available in the UK to have been exported I'd say. It's probably become a 'someday' proposition as many 480 do. Have you ever thought of putting a few wanted ads around the shops / supermarkets, or on the local radio? I'd start with finding out exactly where it is if you can.

As I mentioned some time ago, there was a woman driving around about a year and a bit ago around Bray in a black one with those wheels, two mutts in the back, and it had a towbar.

The only other black one I know of had the same wheels again, was '91, and belonged to a guy from Bray (I think his name is Brendan). That may well be the car that doggie woman was driving; I accosted her outside a shop and she told me she'd bought the car 6 months or so previously.

    Good luck Huntin' :)

    Tony.

    Thanks Tony,

At this stage I'm afraid you are right, it's most likely lurking in a shed or somewhere, just wish I knew where!

It could very well be the one you saw in Bray...in which case I'm glad it's still running :)

Put up a pic of the car here and in the Waterford forum, with the correct reg, and see what happens.

If you have no original photo then get a couple of good ones from Google images. We know what you're on about, others might not.

A motorcheck/mywheels/cartell check will tell you if it is still taxed, I think the cheapest of these checks is 7 quid.

Also if you know the reg and exact date of first registration you can "stalk" the car on the online NCT booking system. You'll know if/when the last test was done, if/when/where it is booked in for a test etc.

edit: If you're doing the latter make sure you know the correct first registration date as AFAIK if you enter it wrong 3 times it locks the car out of the online system for a few days.

    Thanks for that:)

That means it hasn't been taxed or NCT'd since I sold it...frustrating as I basically gave it away based on the false promise that it would be kept running.
