    Hi

I'm just wondering if anyone knows the run/walk near Slade Valley Golf Course near Rathcoole, Co Dublin.

It's in kind of a small forest, I suppose you'd call it, alongside the golf course... there's a walk up from the gate then a circular track, kinda rough. It has a steep climb for probably 60% of the trail (if you go right-handed). I've been told it is 1.6km long but would like to know for sure so if anyone knows it and can help, that'd be great!

I tried to find it on mapmyrun.com but no joy. Too "off the beaten track" I would imagine.

Just thought I'd bump this up and give an update - I measured this run with the MapMyRun iPhone app today and it seems to be between 1.8 and 1.9 miles. It's a good stiff test with, according to the app, about 55% or so up a stiff climb.

That's quite a bit off your original estimate. Can you show us where this trail is, and we can try and measure it using a different app, e.g. Google pedometer/Open Street maps etc.

Yep, hang on til I try figure this Mapmyrun site out...

    Does this link work?

I suspect the bloke who told me it was "about 1.6km" probably meant miles? Even then he was a good bit off.

I run up here occasionally. I'll head up with my trusty Garmin and get a reading from that in the next week.

That would be great - thanks. If you look at the 3D "tour" on my link above, you'll see how inaccurate the iPhone app can be in places although I think it is generally accurate enough. I've measured other runs with it and it seems to do the job.

Saw two deer there today (or else I saw the same one twice!), RR, so keep your eyes peeled! :)

Road Runner, just wondering if you ever got a chance to have a trot around here on your Garmin? I did three circuits of it earlier this week and the mapmyrun iPhone app gave me 5.83 miles at the end.

Would just like to know a more accurate reading of what I'm doing. There can be as much as a quarter mile differential on the MMR app on runs I do regularly.
