Too broody to study

I'm in college and like my course but I can't wait to finish and to get on the jobs market either here or abroad. I try to study but I'm consumed with wanting a baby and spend hours researching aspects of childcare and pregnancy instead of focusing on my exams. If I could afford a baby I would try for one tomorrow.

This has already caused me to repeat a year in college due to poor results. I don't know how to focus long enough to finish and get a job. Any suggestions?

To be honest OP, you need to suck it up and get on with it. Plenty of us who have been in college and then later on while working but still need to study to get their qualification, have put those distractions aside.

If you don't, you're gonna be stuck in college repeating years and you'll only delay your future. Put it to the side and concentrate on your studies. You seem to not have any idea how to prioritise. Do you not realise that you're shooting yourself in the foot by wasting all this time when you should be studying, then failing, yet you wanna get out of college fast enough so that you can get on with your life? It's not gonna happen if you don't give yourself a good shake up.

Ok, you are broody, I've been there (still am!) I have been broody for the last decade, but the way that I was able to focus is that I plan to be the best mother ever. That means being stability career-wise and financially. In order to do this, you need to get the head down for a couple of months, then it will all be over and you will be free to pursue your baby dreams.

This might hurt you to point out, but I have to: Dont you realise that by procrastinating and having to repeat a year, you delayed your baby plans too by a year. You could have been on your way to being a mum now if you had, now you are still at square one.

Its simple. The minute you start browsing baby websites switch off. Allow yourself that time only when you are finished studying for the day. Or change your routine - go to a library or somewhere without internet access, so you cant get distracted.

You dont mention a partner. Whats his take on this?

Thanks, suppose it's what I already know, just needed it said again.

I've a partner of 4.5 years, he knows that I want kids just doesn't know that I am really broody now. He assumes that the study procrasination is something else.

Thats crazy obsession about something that may happen in the future. Seriously, you need to focus on the present, educate yourself for the future and then think about kids...

I wish I had your chance to be back in College....

You have a chance with a college education to have better employment and money prospects long term along with options of visa entry and traveling options to other countries.
I knew a girl who got pregnant when doing her work experience in college. She took a year off and went back when her child was a few months old.
She has never had full time job as she lives in area with poor employment and can't move due to her child. She needs to do further study but can't afford it due to the child.
She has never traveled or had the life that some in there mid 20's should be having.
Many girls I know studied hard, got good jobs, traveled and had a life before getting married and having children in there early to mid 30's. They said they were glad to have this time before having children and they had money aside when they looked at the cost of prams, buggies, nappies ect.
Having a child at the stage will make your life harder as the child will have to come first.
You may not be able to avail of job options, travel or get on the property ladder if you have a child now. Having a child is not an easy option compared to college or is it a way to keep your boyfriend and you together long term.
