    Hi,
I know this is not a new problem but its rediculous. Had 25Mb free. Installed Google Earth. Market quoted size ~7.6Mb. When installed it took up ~22Mb! Thankfully it has option to move to SD. Did so. When moved the quoted size reduced to 15Mb. However now the free memory on phone is 10Mb. Where did the other 15Mb go? Suspiciously similar to what's quoted now for Google Earth...which is meant to be on the SD card. I'm all confused.

Before someone suggests I plan to root once HTC release the Gingerbread update for the Desire.
    Thanks

Could be cache data etc. Clear all that kind of stuff, something might have been left behind by the installation.

Unless you root you'll always have that problem. The only complaint I'd have about the Desire is the lack of internal memory. HTC releasing Gingerbread (which might never happen) won't alter the situation.

Moving apps to the SD on an unrooted phone doesnt move everything. If you root the phone you can map that part of the file system to the SD card so everything gets installed there and your phones internal memory doesnt get touched.

ps I got the official HTC gingerbread update on saturday morning for the Desire HD. I'm on vodafone and it's unrooted. So far it seems solid and a bit smoother than 2.2

Why don't you root and install Leedroid 3.0.5? I just did it myself during the week, Leedroid is a full Gingerbread Rom with HTC Sense and app2sd

    Fear of the unknown!
do you have a link to a good dummys guide! I am actually quite technically minded but just can't afford a bricked phone!

You need to root and get a room like leedroid that will move the davlik cache also. With only 10mb left you will find that you are bit getting Amy syncs working properly now such as gmail. Leedroid will give you lots more internal ram free.

You won't get a bricked phone even though at times when flashing a rom you can feel that is exactly what is happening, as long as you can boot into recovery then it'll be OK.

Rooting and flashing the rom is the best thing I've done with my phone

Sounds good. I'll be looking into that for my own, thanks for the info.

Ah, I didn't know there was any roms available that had Sense. The lack of internal space is infuriating. If I back up everything, will running that rom be pretty much the same as my phone is now?
