...but fine upstairs. Anyone any ideas?

This is a new house, just moved in there at the weekend, and just noticed that on the hot water, both in the kitchen and downstairs toilet, the pressure is very poor, takes an age to fill a sink, and when first turned on, takes a long time for the hot water to run through, whereas upstairs in both bathrooms, the pressure is better, and hot water comes through nearly instantly.

Don't waste any time get the builder back to sort it out. the longer you leave it the less he will be inclined to do anything. Having said that it could be as simple as a valve not fully open. Where is the Copper Cyl located. Downstairs or up.
follow the pipework from the top of the cyl and see where it separates for kitchen and Bathroom. See if there is a valve on the line.

I would check the valves first but be careful some times builders use gate valves to balance your heating. Dont touch this. Its usually located next to your copper cylinder at the bottom

I'd doubt it's a closed valve as the pressure is good upstairs , it could be an airlock , I wouldn't do anything about it yourself , just get the builder to send their plumber back .
