Too many people are going to college to study arts and primary teaching, Tax Payers money should not be spent on this, I heard on the radio the other day that 75% of students spend their grant on drink fags and condoms.

I hear a lot of things on the radio. Thankfully I am smart enough to make up my own mind on what I hear.

Arts and primary school teaching......:rolleyes:...what are you on?!!

What exactly is it that you do?

Seriously, this is the third or fourth thread you've started by just making a blanket statement related to taxpayer's money. Anything else there?

Ha we already have fees. The €3000 registration fee is actually higher than some univerisities yearly fees in other countries. Free education yeah right! :D

€3000 registration fee? Where? For most Irish colleges its between 1500-2000, which is a fraction of the fees one would pay in most developed countries, all of which are in a better economic situation than ours.

75%? I fully believe that, I'm in final year and from what I've seen over the last three years I'd suggest its more. If only there was a way of differentiating the 10% of grant recipients from the 90% who piss it against the wall.

    that's completely untrue.

    it's fags or condoms.

It costs a parent at least €10,000 ayear to send a child to 3rd level, so its not free.

the 10% are the ones with one hand (or finger) slightly larger than the other(s).

I hope you 're not hoping that all those local boozers go to the wall?

publicans are people too you know. (more or less)

Do 75% of students even smoke?

College fees are something that needs to be considered but this thread was not born to discuss them, it was born for a rant.

I heard on the radio the other day that video killed the radio star.

That random assertion sounded way more amenable to actual proof ...

Well I think keep the grant system and introduce fees.

Introduce auto paying of fees with the grants and the students still win. Those that can afford all the fees, pay the fees and those that we already accept need aid to get through college, continue to get aid albeit less aid realistically.

As I posted on the most recent thread I closed, for much the same reason, this isn't twitter. Opening posts need to make a case that leads to a useful discussion, a useful case. Not open with something idiotic. I suggest posting better threads if you plan on retaining access to this forum, or any other.
