Looking to buy a new used car. Use it for daily driving popping around the place. Around 10000 kms a year.

    Must be:
    Hatchback
    Not bigger then MK1 Focus
Cheap to Insure (I'm 18 male)
    01 or Younger
Under €2,000 to buy preferably Cheaper.

I love the Alfa 147 but its quite expensive to insure and maintain.

I've had a 1.1 206 which was underpowered but I quite liked it and a 1.4 Focus which I quite liked but again was underpowered but suppose I'm stuck with underpowered stuff due to insurance.

Fiesta 1.25 zetec is your best bet

The 1.4 Focus is a woeful unit powerwise. You'd struggle to find a 1.4 as bad, except for the 1.4 in the VWs of that era. A 1.4 Corolla VVTi would be rocket like in comparison. If you can live with the looks an MG ZR would be a good bet, if you drove a 206 a ZR shouldn't be a problem.

Wouldn't be the biggest fan of the Old Fiesta look and the new model is out of my price range. I suppose I could get another Focus but I kinda like tying new cars

With the Corolla aswell I'm not a fan of the look. I'm quite picky when it comes to looks!

I suppose the 1.4 focus is sufficient enough for another year power wise. It's just I've been driving a 3.3 litre Dodge in America and the difference is well quite noticeable to say the least!

+1 with the mg ZR. Just make sure the head gasket would be done.
Should be pretty trouble free and swift enough for you.
On the other hand a 1.3/1.4 civic is bullet proof and cheap to insure/tax and good on juice.

Surely a Civic is going to be at the upper end of the insurance price scale compared to anything else with the same size engine?

Thanks for the suggestions keep them coming!

    So far my list is
    MG ZR
    Seat Ibiza
or Possible another Focus or 147

Forgot to say it must be a 5 Door so that rules out the Puma.

if it is a vtec or Type R - yes.
The 1.3 is not loaded really

What's the max engine size you'd go for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 838 ✭✭✭Wats_in_a_name

1.6 probably. Anything more I'm guessing I would be crucified for by insurance.
