I handed in my CV to one of the big sports stores in Ireland and was told that they are recruiting and that I 'should receive a call and have a good chance'. This was about a week ago and have heard nothing. I don't want to annoy them in case they just haven't got around to ringing me, but want to look like I care about the job as I do. Should I call them and what could I say without sounding rude?

'I'm JUST WONDERING WHETHER YOU'VE HAD A CHANCE TO LOOK AT MY cv..'? sounds abit rude?

You could call and ask to speak to the manager, or alternatively drop in, and just say that you've dropped in your cv a week ago, and you were wondering if they had any timeframe in mind in terms of any recruitment?

If I were you, I'd follow up. That shows that you are taking it seriously, and not just waiting for them to call you. That's what I do all the time, and I get jobs easily that way.
