Oil tank distance to Boiler

    hello Folks,

perhaps those of you in the know could help me out here.

I want to move the oil tank. At the moment its a turtle tank 3m from boiler and raised 3 ft. I will be moving a new one 12m away and want to know how high I need to put it. If I leave it on the ground as the level there is higher anyway, it would still be about 8 inches higher than boiler. This is the simplest option but will it work? Also the new tank is as high as long which would suggest that thewre would be slightly more downward pressure at the outlet valve. How high does it need to be?

    Thanks a lot,

    John

Should be fine, make sure that the pipe joint is accessible for inspection and repair. Is there a tigerloop on the system.

    thanks done,

no there is no tigerloop and I will nnot be getting one. Hence the need for the height. You think its high enough on the ground?

    Thanks again,
    john

Fit a tiger loop or you could be an age bleeding it when/if you run out of oil.

There is a new product called boiler bleed which was featured on dragons den worth installing if not using tiger loop. Then you will never have to bleed the system.

raise it up another foot then would be enough?

Also make sure it's fitted on a stable base

lads, does anyone know the answer or formula to the question?

"How high does it need to be?"

    Thanks

It doesn't need to be high, if ground level is higher it will work, the burner has a pump that will pull the oil, but has been said it will be a struggle to bleed yourself if you run out of oil, a Tigerloop or the boiler bleed would help, but not necessary.

In the Firebird or Grant manuals, there is a table showing the diameter of the pipe in relation to the distance and "head-height".

This would be no good if the tank is lower, and i would be afraid of the press button being pushed accidently and emptying the oil tank at a later stage.

9inches (or a concrete block) higher than the burner (not the boiler),the amount of weight of oil in the tank will be enough to push it,also the oil pump on the burner is not desgined to pull the oil from the tank, its purpose is to push the oil through the nozzle, hence why gravity flow is all thats needed

Riello specify 0.1m (4 inches, or a small concrete block)
