If there is who cares??? Its pretty much their choice and it doesnt boil down to intelligence either some extremely intelligent people express belief about different things wheter its scientific or not is another matter.

No, because the strength of someone's faith in the existence of something has no bearing whatsoever on whether or not it exists.

in which I have said that I feel fairly sure that a Supreme being (not quite the same as a personal God) exists, but this has cut no ice with the atheist people on that thread, who do not set much store by such a feeling.

I don't think you understand what believing is.
Believing is knowing, in your own mind of course.

Religious people "know" god exists....anything less is faking it (ie most people)

Not religious myself.
