I usually just throw them in the river behind my house. Not sure where they go but I'm guessing somebody picks them up because I never see them again.

    Make bags out of them.

Seriously though. I'm guessing a bike shop, possibly Rothar in Phibsborough would be a good bet. I'm amassing quite a collection myself.

Drop em down to On Track on Cook St, Eoin's always making stuff out of em (their display stands are wrapped in tubes, the seats are covered in tyres, there was some talk of making belts etc...)

Someone should start making belts out of tyres over here, when I was in the uk some smelly hippies used to come round about once a month with a bike and trailer and collect them all, they made belts and the likes out of them which sold in shops on oxford street for about £50!they used to write a little story for each belt, saying what bike it was from and how many km the tyre had covered which was all BS because they never asked us where the tyres had come from,Schwalbe used to take tyres back and recycle them but they dont any more which is a pity.

    I patch my tubes.
When there's no tube left, then I use it as a bungee e.g. to hold down the bbq cover etc.

Tyres, I keep, in case I can use them again (I've never had one split a sidewall or anything). So far I've never used one again. I'm a hoarder ok?

While we're on the subject - I have a big bag of about 40 tubes and a few old tyres.

I'll use the tyres on the turbo until they're completely wrecked.

Going to patch up the tubes at some stage (if I'm ever really really bored) but I'm wondering are patched latex tubes ok?

They're about 10-12 euro each (but worth it!) so I'd like to reuse them if I can.

What's the best puncture repair kit out there? Had some bad results with a cheap one from halfords.

the problem with tyres is that there is no real way of getting rid of them, currently the best method is called 'pyrolysis' but no where in ireland does that.

I'm familiary with pyrolysis as the process by which you produce charcoal. Never heard of it being done to tyres. Interesting.

don't they shred tyres and spread them on astroturf pitches as well?

i've a friend who works in cleansing division (laughed when i first heard this term - sounds like Ghostbusters or something) in dublin city council. must ask him if they have some sort of disposal method for tyres.

Latex tubes are proven to roll better alright but they loose air MUCH quicker than your standard butyl tube, they can be patched in theory but it can be hard, usually you would make patches from another latex tube, you can try ordinary repair solution that sort of works or there is another solution which name escapes me right now that works better!
But latex is very sensitive to oil, even from your hands, you should wear gloves when fitting the tubes!!

there is no way of getting rid of them really, crumbing them just spreads the problem around. i guess it is better then tyre fires but we need to think some proper solution fast.

I chuck 'em into the nearest ditch. Bike tubes are an invaluable nesting material for the birdies don't you know.

I use old tubes to make ankle straps for swimming with a pull buoy. Not much use if you're not into swimming or triathlon though.

I cut a few up to use as snoopy loops
Handy in a first aid kit. Used them to stop batteries on caving helmets bouncing around. Theres 1000001 uses for them. One tube lasts about half a year.

I plan to try to use a bit of old tube as a sleeve to cover the seat post collar on a bike to stop water getting into the frame. I've had this plan for many years.

Ah no you just missed a huge free collection day for car tyres, it's called Halloween.

I used a couple of old tubes and an out of use helmet as parts for a Dalek costume for my youngest for Halloween this year. I also old inner tubes to wrap and protect exposed parts of the bike when it's being transported on the rack. Blue Peter has a lot to answer for.

Top tip for pipes bursting*: you can used a tube as to fix a split in a water pipe. (cut the valve out and wrap/stretch the tube around the pipe as tight as possible)

if you try this in anger and it doesn't work don't blame me :) your milage may vary, may contain nuts, the value of your investment may fall as well as rise, I don't know what a tracker mortgage is
