What's Your Runaway Plan?

Let's say you kill someone. Or get into some serious debt that you know you won't be able to ever, ever, ever pay off. And you have decided you need to get out of the country ASAP. How would you do it?

To avoid being traced this is what I'd do.

First off, go to the bank and withdraw everything I can over a few days. Overdraw accounts. Max out credit cards. Sell things. Get as much €€€ as I possibly can. I'd pack a bag with basic food, clothes and my money. If I could trust someone, I'd tell them to wire me money once they get a signal from me abroad.

Next, board an early morning ferry from Dublin Port to Hollyhead. From there, get a train to east coast of England and get a ferry to Holland. From there I'd pop around Europe and settle in an eastern-european country for a while. Border crossing would have to be done covertly on buses etc... and if crossing into non-EU country's cross at night in woods etc... Then I'd rent a ****ty studio apartment and plan for the next stage: a new life.

I'd see about getting some false documents. This could take a while so I'd have to be working somewhere. I'd set up a fake PayPal and work online - doing basic content writing etc... Try to buy things using PayPal to save my dwindling cash.Couldn't withdraw to a bank as I haven't got a new ID yet.

When new ID is acquired, cross a few borders again and set up my new life.

I'd move every once and a while too. Change mobile phones regularly. Make sure every bt of my previous ID was destroyed. Change my appearance - grow a beard, change hair.

So, how would you escape Johnny Law or the debt collectors.

I'd tell them my name is Dean0088 and I live on an island off the coast of Ireland.

I don't like filling out forms so I'd probably just let them catch me.

Are the ID requirements for ferries less strict than for aircraft ?

Would you be better getting a bus to Belfast or Larne and taking the ferry to Scotland ?

I was kinda surprised at having to produce my passport onetime when buying a train ticket from the Netherlands to Germany given that I didnt have to do so travelling between Dundalk and Newry or between Germany and Poland ?

As far as I'm aware the chances of getting your passport checked are slim to none. A fake driving licence could also be used (easily available if you know where to look) to travel to the UK, if needs be.

EDIT: also passport controls are more strict when concerning the Netherlands, especially when leaving the Netherlands, because people like to smuggle na drugaí! :O

I'd tell the Guards it was you and mail them this itinerary. That'll keep'em busy while I go about my business.

Pay off the debts and bury any evidence of the murder.

It has worked for me so far.

Do you not need to use a bank a/c or credit card to setup a paypal a/c. You'd still be on the grid and trackable.

    No.

Also, prepaid credit cards could be used under a false name using very basic forging by yourself if there is a need to attach a credit card to the account.

But to set one up and receive money, you need no bank details or CC info.

Well there were no baggage checks so regardless of passport checks that bag I had on the train could have contained 20 Kilos of top grade skunk or an old laptop some dirty washing and miscellaneous souvenirs and knick knacks ?

That's you caught then. Your clothes are all identifiable "last seen wearing..."

You just need money to start with, no food, no clothes, definitely no phone or bank cards.

Getting someone to wire you money - caught again.

    Pffft Amateurs.

Nothing to do with "Disappearing", but I have a friend who lives in the middle east & she has what she calls her "Go-Bag" in the closet of her hallway Contains couple of thousand dollars in cash, another couple in gold, family's passports, spare car keys for their three cars, Change of underwear for everyone, towel (can never forget your towel) ipod touch filled with kids cartoons & energy bars.

She has it in case of war/invasion. She's Irish, he's Saudi & they're very wealthy.
