My insurance is up for renewal in a few days and Quinn Direct are quoting €300 cheaper than everyone else.

Now with all thats going on with Quinn,

Would it be a bad idea to go with them, can they up the insurance cost mid-policy or any tricky things like that?

    Regards Brian

I renewed with Quinn a few weeks ago cos they were the cheapest by a good bit and have third party extension as standard.

From what I know even if the company went tits up during the year they'd still have to cover you until your insurance is up for renewal.

Quinn where always bad to deal with, being near bankrupt won't change that.

The correct answer is that even if the company goes tits up we, the taxpayers, will cover you. They've already hit the insurance insurance fund, which only had ~€26 million, for ~€600 million. That will add an extra levy on all non life polices and we're still paying for PMPA.

Quinn quoted me 915 for my renewal but I got it from 123.ie for 460.

Also del we finished paying for pmpa in 1993 but Bertie an co kept the 3% levy on insurance payments for the government coffers.

I had the same thing with Quinn, over 800 for my car and 123.ie done it for less than 400.

I phoned quinn yesterday about van insurance, they give me a quote of 1235, my local broker done it for 290, yes almost 1K cheaper

I stayed with them this year cause leaving they'd only allow me 1 year NCB, staying they gave me 4. I've never had any claims in 12 years driving but have held Private & Taxi policies throughout the past few years which according to their rules meant my private NCB was lost once I had the Taxi policy. Total horse manure but they get away with it. My hope is that come renewal next Jan/Feb they give me at least 4/5 yrs NCB but knowing them they probably won't, there administration is brutal.

I've been with Zurich the past 3 years, this year is lower than last year and I had a claim in Jan! I didn't loose my no claims bonus as I have protection. Its really good cover, and as my broker has told me, just because others may be cheaper, doesn't mean they have the best cover. I did go back to AXA for a quote, but they couldn't match Zurich's which is €329 fully comp.

I was dealing with a broker for 3 years here in Mayo, and when I went to renew last October they came in at just over €1,300. It was an outrageous quote to say the least, so I went on the advice of a friend and rang a company called Munster Group, based in Ennis I think!? Anyways, they gave me a quote of €420 for fully comp, 24 hour breakdown, covered to tow a trailer, windscreen cover and much more. They wanted €350 3rd party, with less advantages, so it was a no brainer to say the least! I have no issues with them and my mate has been with them for 4 years now and has had no issues! I advise giving them a shout before you renew, good luck with it anyway!
