I want to import good's from Italy and I was wondering if any body could tell me what the story is with customs and vat from an EU country.
I couldn't find it anywhere online only info on importing from an non-ec country.

Customs duty is only payable on goods from outside the EU

If you are a private individual (not in business) the Italian company will charge you Vat on the purchase when you make the order

If you are Vat registered, you give the italian co your VAT number and they will zero rate the suppy and you self account for the VAT on the reverse charge basis on your VAT 3
