Should I watch this ? I got the series 1 DVD as a gift, is it good ?

Wrong place to ask maybe - since most people here will love it, I got advice to watch Fringe and I think that is pretty bad.

Is the Wire by the same authors of 24?

    same kinda style?

I had the same sort of questions before i watched it and put off watching it for months and months, when i did finally sit down to watch it i couldn't stop!! I think i got through the 5 series in about 2 weeks!! :D

It starts off slow and it takes you a while to get to know who all the characters are and what they're all about but once you do its just a joy to watch!!

It really is one of the best shows ever made!!

I didn't like it, I gave it the old "watch 5 episodes" rule before I gave up. Couldn't understand a word they were saying tbh!!

The Wire gave me the greatest TV experience of my life, although I can understand how the style of the show can put people off. BTW, don't expect anything like 24 when you're watching it!

The DVD has subtitles, I think a lot of people needed them.

I don't watch anything wit subtitles, i black in white, standerd definition, or is not available for direct download from the apple store. will i like it?

ffs, no one can tell you if you're going to like something or not, just watch and see for yourself.

Rest assured that it is the top rated TV show in IMDB so it's not complete crap.

It's a brilliant programme but a real slow burner. It grows and grows on you the more you watch it. You don't get the immediate hit you would from a show like 24 but over its lifespan its more rewarding.

I was going to post a thread about precisely this topic. I'm on the first series, have watched a couple of episodes, now buying the series has seemed a waste. It's so boring. Will give it another go thanks to this thread. May report back.

First couple of episodes are the slowest, you're getting used to the way they speak, plenty of characters to get to know etc.

Don't worry, nearly everyone has been where you are!

I'm going to put the head down and push on. I got it for €20 on Play so I don't want it to go to waste. Have just finished the third episode where
it ends with Daniels suspecting of being dirty
. It's looking up. It's frightening how so many are in the same position but great reviews have come out of peoples' persistence.
